    Research Focus Question

In order to evaluate the potential that “green” activities might have on the environment and dry cleaning industry, two preliminary questions need to be addressed. By developing a strong understanding of the dry cleaning industry (current methodologies and geographic trends) and a fundamental knowledge of the chemistry behind dry cleaning (solvent chemistry, solvent recapture and recycle), it will be possible to create a platform for your research to proceed from.

  • What are the potential reductions in hazardous waste formation and air emissions if dry cleaners began utilizing more “green” processes?

  • Are the “green” methods as effective at gently cleaning fragile “dry clean only” garments?
