Research Focus Question In order to evaluate the potential that “green” activities might have on the environment and dry cleaning industry, two preliminary questions need to be addressed. By developing a strong understanding of the dry cleaning industry (current methodologies and geographic trends) and a fundamental knowledge of the chemistry behind dry cleaning (solvent chemistry, solvent recapture and recycle), it will be possible to create a platform for your research to proceed from. What are the potential reductions in hazardous waste formation and air emissions if dry cleaners began utilizing more “green” processes? Are the “green” methods as effective at gently cleaning fragile “dry clean only” garments?
